North East Sikh Visit

28th February 2017

On 26th February I visited school and met Cloud Singh, our visitor from the Sikh community in Newcastle, who had come to meet all the pupils, to answer their questions about his faith (as part of the series of events to learn about other religions, and to help to develop their tolerance for others faiths and beliefs). It turned out there were a lot of questions! I was impressed that they had really thought about what they had learnt so far, and even the youngest ones had something to say. Cloud was very happy to talk about anything and everything to do with Sikhism - what Sikhs eat, what their festivals are, what their religious symbols are — the most popular with the children were what he referred to as his  ‘sacred underpants’! Again I was impressed at the children’s level of engagement, and how curious they were about every aspect of Sikh life. Roll on the mosque visit!
