Sunflower Competition

23rd September 2016

At Norham St. Ceolwulf's First School, one of our valued annual events is the Sunflower Competition. Each year, in late Spring, every child in the school plants and labels their very own sunflower seed.

After the Summer holiday, the children always return to check which sunflower has grown the most. This summer, the garden has been particularly fortunate to receive occasional rain showers and lots of sunshine! Three tall sunflowers were in close competition during the first few weeks back at school. However, Mrs O'Donnell decided that an appropriate judging date would be on the day of our Harvest Festival. On Friday morning, all of the children visited the garden to hear the official result.

The owner of the tallest sunflower was Livvy Barr in Year 3. Livvy was presented with her Sunflower trophy which will be engraved with her name, the date and height of her very tall sunflower-2 metres and 37 centimetres!
